Excercise for your body, mind, spirit, & emotions

What is Nia?

Nia, a low-impact fusion fitness experience, combines conscious movement from the healing arts, martial arts, and dance arts to balance and strengthen body, mind, spirit, and emotions. Practiced barefoot to invigorating, inspiring, and soothing music, Nia movements are based on moving the body's way to prevent and heal injury, maintain cardiovascular health, and support the body's flow of energy.

Nia is for every body regardless of age, gender, or fitness level.

Hanna Mathis ~ Teacher Profile:

After discovering Nia in Santa Fe in 2005, I experienced Black Belt Nia Teacher and Trainer, Holly Curtis' wonderful Nia class almost every day for 8 months. I earned my White Belt there, have taught Nia in Burlington, NC, and am teaching Nia classes in Wilmington, North Carolina. I completed my Blue Belt Certification April 2010 with Nia founders, Carlos and Debbie Rosas!

Nia gives me so much and I feel more rooted and grounded in my body (especially my feet) and Being because of my daily practice. For me, doing Nia is about moving my body and feeling my whole self (body, mind, spirit, emotions) in a place of ease, comfort, pleasure, and joy. As I practice Nia, I sense my body, my self, my Being in the present moment and the magic happens. As I embrace being uniquely me, I do what feels good and real to me. As a Nia guide, I encourage others to feel and express these healing ways and other discoveries in Nia.

I bring to Nia not only many years of studying through Nia classes, workshops, jams, and reading/journaling, but also over 30 years of dance, fitness, yoga, and arts experience and teaching. I look forward to sharing Nia with you. Feel free to contact me.
